I am proud to work side by side with my Chinese friends (my story with China)

In September 1987, at the age of 21, I graduated from the Faculty of Arts at Cairo University, Egypt. Later, I applied for a job at the Egypt Branch of China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited (China Construction Egypt) and was hired. This chance opportunity started my indissoluble bond with China.

Since I started working in February 1988, I have been working at China Construction Egypt for 36 years. When I first joined the company, as the only Egyptian in the company, I had both expectations and worries. What I am looking forward to is that I will have the opportunity to learn about China and make many new friends; what I am worried about is whether I can get along well with so many foreign colleagues. However, I soon discovered that my Chinese colleagues were very friendly to me and took great care of me. At that time, the company was still relatively small with not many employees. It didn’t take long for my Chinese colleagues to become my good friends.

Due to lack of experience, I often did things poorly or made mistakes when I first started working. When my colleagues in the company found out, they would promptly provide suggestions and guidance. Hou Ping, a senior in the company, also constantly encouraged and enlightened me, which made me feel very warm. When I am sad, some colleagues help me share and resolve my worries; when I achieve results, my colleagues are also happy for me, just like my relatives. My Chinese colleagues often invite me to participate in various festive activities during various holidays, so that I can better understand Chinese culture and integrate into the company team. A few years later, Hou Ping's term in Egypt ended and she returned to China. Despite the distance, we have kept in touch over the years. On every festival, we would also wish each other well, as if the other person was by our side. I believe that a friendship based on mutual trust and care will accompany us throughout our lives.

Hou Ping and other colleagues are very concerned about the development of CSCEC Egypt. We are all proud that the company has undertaken the construction of the new administrative capital central business district project in Egypt. Now the company is getting bigger and bigger, with more than 9,000 employees, of which nearly 7,000 are in Egypt alone. I became the most senior Egyptian employee in the company.

I found that Egyptian and Chinese cultures have many things in common, such as valuing family and being kind to friends. I often exchange ideas about Egyptian and Chinese cultural customs with my Chinese colleagues. My colleague Wang Wenjie told me many Spring Festival customs, and she is also very interested in Egyptian culture. I invited her to my home and prepared special delicacies for her, allowing her to understand and experience the Egyptian festival culture up close. The beautiful and warm scenes are unforgettable.

I have witnessed the growth of CSCEC Egypt, and I have also felt the deepening friendship between employees of the two countries. I have always felt that the closer the relationship between me and my Chinese friends, the stronger the friendship between the two peoples will be. The New Administrative Capital Central Business District project is a symbol of Egypt-China friendship. As a project participant and witness, I will always be proud to work side by side with Chinese friends.

Friendship between people is the foundation of friendship between countries. May the friendship between Egypt and China be as luxuriant and everlasting as a big tree. I am also willing to contribute my share to promoting friendly people-to-people exchanges between Egypt and China.
